Irene Clark : New York Artist

ANCIENT BOTANY

My botanical prints are monotypes conceived of in the chine colle manner. I use inks, dry pigments, and botanical specimens printed at the same time. I may remove a leaf to reveal an impression in the support sheet to emphasize that the work is intended to suggest buried botanical fossils.

I strive to integrate the disciplines of painting, printmaking, fresco and book arts. Extending the technical boundaries of each medium, while deepening my artistic statement, is an essential aspect in the formal concerns of my work.

All of my artworks are deeply involved with my training in geology, archaeology, anthropology and environmental sciences.
